BLOG NOTES:

In making this video, myself (Ryan Golding), Ryan Dhanraj and Sarvan Singh all went downtown Toronto in order to film at Kyle's place, Kyle of course being Sensei Bob Wokowski himself. During the trip, half way there, I noticed that we had somehow managed to forget the key prop of this episode, the orange. Dhanraj called Kyle and asked if he had any. The answer was no. He did have grapefruits though, and so what we call an orange in this video is in all actuality a grapefruit.

We arrived on scene and began setting up a few lights. Daylight was fading, and we were hoping to get a bit of it coming in through the windows, due to the scene taking place in the early morning. I was actually looking to get a sunrise look by using the sunset "Magic Hour" at the end of the day. This was not to be though, as it was raining and overcast outside. None the less, after eating some pizza, which Sarvan ran across the street to get, we quickly began filming, and managed to get some light in through a back window.

The juice was actual orange juice as far as I remember. What we did was have Bob hold the grapefruit over an empty glass and pretend he was squeezing it. Then in the same framing, we filmed the glass once again, this time with Dhanraj pouring in juice from a carton. In post production I simply masked and layered the shots over one another to create the effect, using his hand holding the grapefruit to cover up where Dhanraj was pouring the juice. It worked out quite well in a cheesy kind of way. The fruit itself never seems shrivel or get smaller as its juice exits, but this can simply be covered up by saying that it is a special Martial Arts fruit that gives an endless supply of juice. Bob grew it himself.

The final step in filming this video was to have Bob drink down the entire glass in one go. This isn't exactly easy with orange juice, and we were expecting Kyle to puke everywhere after doing so. This thankfully didn't happen and he managed to get it down rather easily, not once, but twice. This proves that he truly is an expert Martial Artist.

We got some macro shots on Bob's eyes and mustache in this video, a shot that we rarely used in any of the others. At that point we had an old Minolta lens with us that had a decent macro on it, so we used this and it came out pretty good. We have since picked up a macro tube to use with our sharper lenses, and hope to use it in the near future, as having such shots really adds to the production value.

In filtering, the shots were darkened and some grain was added to give it a more 80's low light kind of feel. The music added was that of Jason Fyfe, who pretty much provides us with our entire library of music used within these videos. He is very good at producing music that sounds "Martial Artsy".
