BLOG NOTES:
This video was shot in an empty house owned by Dalewood Productions owner Manjit Singh. We filmed two videos this day, first one being "Random Ninja Attacks During Komodo Kan Karate Session", which was cut short due to Dhanraj having to go to swimming lessons. Kyle (Sensei Bob), Amrit (Ninja Death Warrior) and I went to Wild Wings afterward for dinner, while waiting for Dhanraj (Punching Bag Wang) to finish up his swim class. We needed his assistance in setting up lights for the second production of the evening.
We filmed this in a rush, as we only had about 1 hour to work with once we got going. Otherwise the fight scene itself would have been substantially longer with more camera angles. None the less, we were all happy with how it came out. Kyle did not have much fight scene experience at this point, so it was a good starter project for learning how to go about such a thing.
Amrit on the other hand has had plenty of fight scene experience, pretty much the better part of 15 years worth, as in 1995 we picked up a VHS camcorder for the first time and started recording random fighting. He had been out of action for several years previous to taking up the role of Ninja Death Warrior, and the episodes we had filmed with him previous to this one did not contain any extended fight sequencing, just single spots. So it was a chance for him to get used to choreographed fighting once again.
There were a few blunders as Kyle was a bit rough with his blocks and attacks, while Amrit wasn't as focused as usual, punching Kyle in the face for real with a spinning back fist. I can assure that both performers had bruises on their shins and forearms after this production.
The lighting effects were added in post production filtering, as everything on set was simply filmed with the whole room brightly lit. The fantastic, yet very odd music by Jason Fyfe really adds to the comic element of a Ninja attacking a Karate expert in underwear. It's almost too stupid to be serious, but we took it as seriously as possible. Bob wouldn't have it any other way.
Although these visuals are barely seen, if looking closely during the lightning flashes at beginning and end of the video, you will see that the great Sensei Bob has a boner while dreaming of Martial Arts action. These were actually keys on a key chain stuffed down his briefs. Another thing to point out is the feathers exploding out from Bob's pillow when the ninja swings his sword down on it. Not very noticeable, yet hidden excitement which we try to add in our videos here and there.
